I Can t Stay Long

Dated Travel Writing - ...without much passion or power. As I walked out one midsummer morning verges on being a good book, skirting round the edges of the Spanish Civil War. This was good material to fall asleep to.

an early tourist - rather dated pieces about ibiza and the caribbean, which prove he got to such places before the mass tourism he was effectively promoting really got going.he enjoys describing the local peasants, carnivals in mexico, pubs in ireland etc.very strong on recreating the senses he is describing, although he tends to the hackneyed and cliched.beirut has of course been blown apart and rebuilt again since he visited , concorde is no more. poland is nt under the yoke of communism.an easy read, very diverse, giving glimpses of history through experience.very keen on drinking.i wish there were dates for each of these pieces, to give one an idea of when he was there. mainly 1960 s i think.taken form various magazines, writing as a journalist.

Stunning - A remarkable piece of writing, ready to awaken the senses and remind one of the joys of being alive and sentient. Truly worthwhile reading, if not to disprove this review
